Rockettes kick off 'Christmas Spectacular' at Straz tonight

Let the high-kicking begin.

The Rockettes, New York City's world-famous dance troupe of leggy ladies, kick off their holiday-season run at the Straz Center in Tampa tonight at 7:30.

The Rockettes will perform in an all-new production of the Radio City Christmas Spectacular at the performing arts center's Carol Morsani Hall through Dec. 29.

Tickets run from $35 to $120 at the Straz website.

The Rockettes were formed more than 85 years ago, and have been performing at Radio City Music Hall in New York since 1931. In 1933, the holiday tradition of the “Radio City Christmas Spectacular” was born.

They first brought the show on the road to Tampa in 2003. This year's production features new scenes, glamorous costumes, visual effects and, of course, precision choreography.

This year's troupe features a Tampa Bay area native, first-year Rockette Carissa Fiorillo, who is from New Port Richey.
