The Radio City Christmas Spectacular starring the Rockettes danced into the Straz Center on Thursday, bringing a dose of Christmas cheer.
The legendary ladies made their entrance onto the red carpet escorted by Tampa police officers, and Police Chief Jane Castor kicked off the festivities with a reading of “’Twas the Night Before Christmas”
Then the Rockettes took the stage in reindeer costumes with Santa in tow and brought the New York holiday tradition to the Straz, bounding their way across the stage and dancing their way through a family spectacle that entertained the young and young at heart.
A Christmas tradition for more than 85 years, the Rockettes danced their way through a two-hour show filled with glittering costumes, Christmas carols, good ol’ Saint Nick and of course, precision dancing, with lots of their trademark eye-high kicks The Rockettes’ dancing and energy is what the show is about.
From the snappy “Twelve Days of Christmas” to that evergreen favorite “Parade of Wooden Soldiers” (a show tradition since 1933) and a living nativity, the Rockettes thrilled and entertained, with each scene enhanced by a dazzling 50-foot LED screen that featured eye-popping visuals of a snowy New York, a dazzling Christmas tree, ornaments and a wintery wonderland.
If the Rockettes Christmas spectacular doesn’t put you in the Christmas spirit, nothing will.
The show will be in town through Dec. 29.
