News Channel 8 adds weekend meteorologist from New York
News Channel 8 has hired a meteorologist from New York to bolster the station’s weather department after two recent departures. Bryan Bennett will cover the weather on weekend mornings and for the noon newscast, a position that was vacated by Megan Hatton a few months ago. He most recently was the executive weather producer and chief meteorologist at WCBS-TV in New York. He also managed weather graphics content for 14 CBS stations. Bennett was also a weather producer for WSB-TV in Atlanta for five years. He has a degree in science, earth and atmospheric science from the Georgia Institute of Technology.Bennett’s first broadcasts on WFLA News Channel 8 will be at 9 a.m. and noon May 25. Two of News Channel 8’s meteorologists recently left for Houston. Hatton, who had been at the Tampa station since 2007, left in March to join her husband who was already in Houston. The same month, Brooks Garner left for a position at KHOU-TV after three years in Tampa.
