Ybor City’s main drag will be fiesta central Saturday at two events that pay tribute to the food, culture and heritage of Latin immigrants who settled in Ybor City at the turn of the 19th century.
Fiesta Day, a family-friendly street festival, will feature a variety of food vendors hawking ethnic cuisine and live entertainment from Orlando’s La Calle Band, the Latin Wave Quartet and Flamenco Troupe SOMOS. There will also be arts and crafts vendors, raffles, exhibits and lots more fun for the entire family. Ybor’s main throughfare will be closed through at least 6:30 p.m. during the festival. Fiesta Day is free and open to the public.
During the event, head over to the Ybor City Saturday Market in Centennial Park (corner of Eighth Avenue and 19th Street) and watch 40 flan enthusiasts battle it out at the 11th annual Flan Fest.
Contestants will try to impress the judges with their creamy custard in traditional and non-traditional categories, presentation and appearance, for cash prizes and bragging rights. Flan sampling, a flan eating contest and shopping also also part of the festivities, which take place from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
