Actor Charlie Murphy will begin his weekend of standup shows at the Tampa Improv in Ybor City tonight. The comedy veteran is in town performing as part of his national tour titled Charlie Murphy's Acid Trip.
Murphy is probably best known for his role on "Chappelle's Show," where his real-life tales of life in the '80s around Rick James, Prince and his younger brother, actor Eddie Murphy, became the basis for the massively popular "Charlie Murphy's True Hollywood Stories" sketches.
His dozens of film credits include "Lottery Ticket," "Night at the Museum" and Chris Rock's hip-hop parody "CB4." He's also voiced the bank-robbing, war veteran Ed Wuncler III on Cartoon Network's "The Boondocks" for five seasons, and recently authored the book "The Making of a Stand Up Guy."
