Elaborate chalk art will cover the sidewalks and promenades of Clearwater Beach this weekend during the city’s second annual Chalk Art Festival.
More than 20 artists are competing for $3,000 in prizes at the festival, which has been expanded this year to include works that create a 3-D optical illusion on the pavement.
Beginning Friday at noon, you can watch the artists work on their pieces along the beach walk behind the Hyatt Regency at 301 S. Gulfview Blvd. in Clearwater. The festival goes on through Sunday at 3 p.m., with judging and an awards ceremony Sunday at 1 p.m.
The nearby Surf Style surf shop at 311 S. Gulfview Blvd. will be selling limited-edition shirts featuring the best art from the festival. Half of the proceeds will go to the Guy Harvey Scholarship for Art Education, which will benefit two Clearwater High School seniors focusing on visual arts.
