Anchor Leigh Moody leaves Bay News 9
TAMPA - Leigh Moody is no longer an anchor at Bay News 9. And sports anchor/reporter Joe Girven is out at Bright House Sports Network. Moody, who had been with the network for nine years, left the 24-hour local news channel on Monday. Girven left Bright House Sports on Tuesday. Officials at Bright House Network, which owns both Bay News 9 and the Sports Network, declined to give reasons for the terminations. Elliot Wiser, corporate vice president of local programming for the cable television provider, said "we do not discuss personnel matters."He did say that the positions would be filled and neither was a cost-cutting measure. "It was a mutual decision in both cases," he added. "And the staff changes are not related. Bay News 9 and Bright House Sports are separate operations. It was just a coincidence that both happened this week." Moody anchored on weeknights. A native of Palm Harbor, she is a University of Central Florida alumnus and worked in Orlando, Charleston, S.C. and Flint, Mich. before joining Bay News 9. Girven, from Boston, is a University of Florida graduate who worked in Gainesville, Savannah, Ga. and Mobile, Ala. He was the sports director for WCJB-TV in Gainesville for more than seven years before joining Bright House. He was the baseball play-by-play voice of Bright House and anchor of the Toyota Sports Connection on Saturday nights.
