The past few years have seen an explosion in the number of urban murals painted on walls throughout Tampa Bay.
Last week alone, 21 new ones went up in St. Petersburg as part of the Shine Mural Festival, and while St. Petersburg’s Central Arts District has become known for its colorful outdoor artwork, more murals are popping up in Tampa as well, especially in neighborhoods like Seminole Heights and SoHo.
They cover breweries and barber shops and pay tribute to Ybor City’s roosters. Even the 60-year-old Bern’s Steak House spruced up its warehouse with a mural by Los Angeles artist Tristan Eaton earlier this year.
It took more than six months of driving around Tampa and St. Petersburg on nights and weekends to photograph more than 150 of them, and that still wasn’t all of them. Some prominent ones have come and gone in that time.
We’ve included more than 100 of our favorites in this video.
