Five Tampa area restaurants that make bingo night cool

The Oxford Exchange: The beautiful, hipster-bait restaurant at The Oxford Exchange is usually only open for brunch and lunch (and dinner on Thursdays) but for their monthly Bingo Night the chef prepares a special buffet for $25, and it's deliciously different every time. For July it's tacos (pork, chicken, or kale, tomato and feta) with jicama slaw and churro cookies. Other months have featured sweet potato biscuits, fried chicken, short ribs and jalapeno cornbread. Game boards are $5. Bingo is 6:30 p.m. (cocktails at 5:30). It's the third week of every month, but days vary. Visit oxfordexchange.com for the schedule.

Hamburger Mary's: The LGBT-friendly, gourmet hamburger joint on the second floor of the Centro Ybor complex in Ybor City serves up rowdy and randy games of Drag Queen Bingo (plus burgers topped with mac 'n cheese, grilled pineapple or other goodies) every Monday through Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. You get 10 games for $10, with proceeds benefitting a different, local charity each week. Tini-Tuesdays means “totally uncensored dirty bingo” with drag diva hostesses Miss Amy Demilo and Nicole Monet plus $3 off all martinis.

World of Beer South Tampa: The S. Howard Avenue location of the craft beer bar chain recently started hosting Beer Bingo every Monday night beginning at 7 p.m. It's free to play, and they offer a variety of fun prizes, from pretzel appetizers to gift cards (or as they call them, draft cards). Beer Bingo is essentially the same as regular bingo, but the game board features breweries instead of letters (and, of course, bottle caps to mark your game board). Service industry specials (half price drafts) begin at 9 p.m.

MacDinton's St. Petersburg: If you're on the other side of the bay, the MacDinton's Irish pub in downtown St. Pete has a weekly Boobs, Balls, Booze and Bingo night Sundays at 7:30 p.m. hosted by Daphne Ferraro (billed as “the tallest drag queen in captivity”). The suggested donation to play is $10, which goes to Operation Co-Exist.

Gators Cafe & Saloon: The “longest waterfront bar in the world” offers a great view of John's Pass from its deck as well as a fresh spin on bingo called “bazingo,” which involves a DJ and music for a two-hour game every Sunday and Monday at 8 p.m. Prizes range from appetizers and drinks to a “progressive jackpot” that can be worth more than $500 (and it's free to play). Cover your card in the announced amount of numbers or less to win.
