In case you’ve forgotten, Nicolas Cage was almost Superman.
The 1998 film almost got made. Tim Burton was committed to direct. Kevin Smith wrote the script. And going by the concept art and screen tests that surfaced, “Superman Lives” would have been both insanely weird, and awesome.
It didn’t happen, of course, but the film that never got made has made it possible for another film to have a life. “The Death of ‘Superman Lives’; What Happened?” is a feature-length documentary about the film’s failure, and it’s currently in production.
The new trailer for the doc features interviews with Burton, Smith and others who are still “haunted” by the movie and what could have been. The trailer also teases to some other details to be revealed in the movie (Chris Rock as Jimmy Olsen??).
The director of “The Death of ‘Superman Lives’ is looking for help funding the completion of the movie at supportsupermanlives.com.
