It's official: The Cuban is Tampa's 'signature sandwich'
If there were any doubts whether the Cuban sandwich was Tampa's signature taste, the Tampa City Council erased them Thursday. During its regularly scheduled meeting, the council officially named the Cuban as Tampa's "signature sandwich." The council had pondered this since last month, when the city's Citizens Advisory Committee on Cultural Assets was assembled to find ways to put the city's cultural assets to work. Cuban sandwich expert David Audet, who provided the advisory committee with research, said the mix of ham, roast pork, salami, Swiss cheese, mustard and pickles defines Tampa and makes our version better than even those from Miami or Cuba.
