The iconic Goody Goody sign has been refurbished and was lifted into place Monday at the soon-to-open restaurant at 1601 W. Swann Ave. in Hyde Park Village.
Dormant for more than a decade, the Goody Goody brand was purchased by Richard Gonzmart, of Columbia Restaurant and Ulele fame, last year. Included were recipes, furniture, and even the sign, which was rusting in a salvage yard.
Thomas Sign & Awning Co. of Clearwater refurbished the sign.
The original Goody Goody on Florida Avenue downtown was a neighborhood burger joint that many people in Tampa remember going to as kids.
Columbia Restaurant Group spokesman Jeff Houck offered a “May-ish” opening date, but couldn’t be more specific. “As Richard did with Ulele, he says we’ll open when we’re ready,” Houck said.
