TAMPA — The Ulele restaurant under construction at the former Tampa Water Works in Tampa Heights will open July 14, owner Richard Gonzmart announced on his personal Facebook page Thursday.
Gonzmart also announced that the restaurant would be open for a breakfast sneak preview on June 15, after his Father's Day Walk to benefit prostate cancer research.
The restaurant has been in development for more than two years. The project's budget, which includes a 225-seat restaurant, a beer garden, a microbrewery and an outdoor patio, is estimated to cost about $5 million. The city of Tampa is renovating the adjacent Water Works Park to accompany the restaurant.
Caught off-guard by Gonzmart's impromptu announcement, chief marketing officer Michael Kilgore said the opening date may shift a little, to another day that week, depending on staff training and other factors.
“Richard told me, 'I got tired of people asking me, so I just put it out there,'” Kilgore said.
“It's doable,” Kilgore said. “I would caution that the date is not yet set in stone.”
