Bern's breaks ground today on 140-room Epicurean Hotel
Tampa mayor Bob Buckhorn and other officials will be on hand tonight to break ground on a much-anticipated hotel adjacent to Bern's Steak House in South Tampa. Conceived by Bern's five years ago but put on hold due to the recession, the Epicurean Hotel will break ground on construction, with a target opening of November 2013. The $33-million, 140-room resort, to be built on an empty lot next to Bern's on South Howard Avenue, will cater to business travelers and food lovers. It will feature luxurious food-themed dining, a neighborhood bistro, spa and bakery. Bern's owner David Laxer and partner Mainsail Lodging & Development of Tampa are joining forces with Marriott to add the Epicurean to the hotel chain's Autograph Collection of 34 high-end boutique resorts. The groundbreaking is not open to the public.
