An “undetermined ignition source” caused a three-alarm fire that destroyed several units and displaced a number of residents at a Tampa apartment complex this morning.
Tampa Fire Rescue officials, responding to a blaze at the Watermans Crossing Apartments, 4515 N Rome Ave., found heavy smoke and flames coming from the third-floor roof of the three-story multi-unit Building R1605.
The building was evacuated before firefighters began attacking the blaze, officials said.
A firefighter and an unidentified person were treated for heat-related issues, officials said. The firefighter was transported to a local hospital and the other person was treated at the scene.
Officials said the fire originated in a bedroom in Unit R304 and was caused by an undetermined source and resulted in extensive fire and smoke damage throughout the complex.
The fire caused an estimated total loss of around $600,000 and was under control in about an hour, officials said.
The American Red Cross will help residents displaced by the fire, officials said.
Officials continue to investigate the cause of the fire.
