Then and now: Dairy Quick, 1986 and 2013

SULPHUR SPRINGS-Dairy Quick once drew customers who walked from the surrounding neighborhood and nearby Sulphur Springs pool to order ice cream cones, sandwiches, chocolate fudge sundaes, banana splits and sodas. The business previously was a Dairy Queen. On Sept. 21, 1964, a newspaper advertisement offered the ice cream concession for sale. There was a "profitable building including building equipment," the ad stated. The Wisconsin owner was at the store waiting for anyone who wanted to make an offer, the solicitation said. In this 1986 photograph a man places an order at the eatery at 8002 N. Nebraska Ave. The shop since has been torn town. It was on the west side of the roadway, just north of the Nebraska Avenue bridge. Local historian Linda Hope, who owns the Penny Saver, said she remembers a dress shop, record shop and beauty shop along that same stretch of Nebraska.
