Red Cross Angels sign cards for troops

PALMA CEIA — Red dresses and blouses were the order of the day as members of the Red Cross Angels greeted old and new friends for the annual Red Cross Angels Silver Coffee.

Becky Rauenhorst opened her home to more than 200 guests who marveled at the large rooms, decor and patio and pool area with an outdoor kitchen. Among the attendees were Tampa Mayor Bob Buckhorn and Tampa City Council members Yvonne Capin, Harry Cohen and Mike Suarez.

Past presidents of the organization, which raises money and awareness for the Red Cross Chapter of Tampa Bay, served coffee and spiced punch. Finger sandwiches, cheeses, vegetables and homemade candies and cookies were available for guests on tables.

Rauenhorst said, “It’s a fabulous cause. And when my neighbor Missy Steadman (president of the Angels) asked me, I couldn’t say no.”

Steadman said the event raised a record $14,000 to be given to the local chapter.

“All funds raised stay with the Tampa chapter, funding emergency response and helping our military,” Steadman said.

While the guests visited, they also signed stacks of holiday greeting cards to be sent to troops deployed overseas.
