Whimsical name, serious shopping at Tate & Tilly

Finding a unique and special gift for numerous birthdays, anniversaries and special occasions throughout the year can be both stressful and time consuming. According to Tisha DiFelice, owner of Tate & Tilly Boutique, 24349 N. Dale Mabry Highway, Carrollwood, her shop is the ideal place to find just the right gift for any occasion — with one small caveat.

“Most of our gifts are for females,” DiFelice admits. “We do have a few things for men, but they are such a hard niche to cover.”

Most men probably consider the opposite true, but are thankful that there is a shop where they can find gifts that the women in their life will appreciate. Women will welcome the fact that the inventory at Tate & Tilly changes frequently, which means they can always find unique items and not have to worry about recipients getting the same gift from someone else.

What really makes the boutique in the Grand Plaza stand out is the fact that Tate & Tilly is comprised of 10 additional local vendors, each with a different specialty — from clothing and accessories to jewelry and candles, as well as doll clothing and decorative items. Since each vendor stays current with the trends in their particular niche, it ensures that the products available at Tate & Tilly are at the forefront of fashion.

“We carry products from well-known boutique brands, such as Glory Haus, Mud Pie, Nora Fleming, Alternative Apparel, Magnolia Lane, Tyler Candles and Lilly Pulitzer,” DiFelice says. “We are usually cheaper than other boutiques and our inventory changes daily, so we are always bringing in new products.”

DiFelice adds that the Tyler candles are very popular, as are the college-themed gifts (mostly Florida State and University of Florida), especially this time of year. Younger shoppers can’t seem to get enough of the American Girl doll clothes and accessories.

“We have custom bling shirts with the sparkly crystals and rhinestones, which people can have personalized with their name or school,” DiFelice continues, adding that school, civic and church groups often purchase the shirts in bulk to promote their organizations or special events. Custom monograms can be added to much of the clothing sold at Tate & Tilly, and even some of the accessories, such as women’s bags.

Decorative wine glasses and shot glasses by Lolita, Lilly Pulitzer agendas and the ever-changing selection of fashionable clothing and jewelry are popular with customers as well, but the selection of gifts at Tate & Tilly is so varied, it’s hard to accurately describe it all. For example, there is Blingsting, a sparkly canister of pepper spray with a heart-shaped nozzle, which combines a touch of fashion whimsy with serious self defense capabilities.

“Because of the name, I think people think we are just for children, but we have all kinds of gifts for everybody, and we do gift-wrapping right in the store,” DiFelice says. “Come in and check us out.”
