Two honored by mayor, governor

Recently, more than 200 veterans were honored and presented the Florida Governor’s Veterans Service Award at Governor Rick Scott’s awards ceremony here in Tampa.

Pictured are Tampa Mayor Bob Buckhorn; Captain Robert Silah, USN, retired, immediate past president of the Tampa Chapter of the Military Officers Association of America, chairman of Operation Helping Hand and a Member of the National Board of Military Officers Association of America (MOAA); Ben Ritter, Paralyzed Veterans of America member and co-chair, Tampa Mayor’s Alliance for Persons with Disabilities; and Governor Scott.

Ben Ritter was very involved in initiating the “Call for Assistance Phone Numbers on Gasoline Pumps” statute with strong support from Operation Helping Hand, a special program of the Tampa Chapter of MOAA.

In November 2013, Governor Scott and First Lady Ann Scott honored Captain Silah and five other Floridians during an induction ceremony at the capitol for the inaugural class of the Florida Veterans’ Hall of Fame.

The six were selected from over 175 applicants.
