LUTZ – Pine Lake Nursery in Lutz has more than 700 different species of plants, trees and flowers throughout their extensive grounds, from palm trees and tropical plants to a variety of grasses, groundcover plants and flowering perennials and annuals, as well as mulch and topsoil.
The family-owned nursery carries the not only the popular plant choices that are found at chain retailers, but more exotic plants that homeowners can use to make their landscaping stand out, too.
“As far as plants, we carry pretty much everything for landscaping, from trees and shrubs, tropicals, perennials, annuals and even a few indoor plants. We have just about everything you need for your yard. Even though we have a large inventory, if we don’t have a particular plant that a customer is looking for, we can special order it, ” said Ivan Martinez, owner of Pine Lake Nursery.
Many of the of the plants sold at Pine Lake Nursery are native Florida plants, and most of the plants sold at the nursery fall under the category of “Florida-friendly,” meaning they don’t require excess watering or fertilizer. That’s good not only for the environment, but for the wallet as well. According to Martinez, the vast selection of plants and reasonable prices are only part of the reason why Pine Lake Nursery has built such a dedicated clientele since it opened in 1998.
“Our staff is very knowledgeable and most have been in the industry for many years,” Martinez said, adding that he has more than 40 years of experience.
“We can provide our customers with the knowledge to put the right plant in the right place, which is essential for successful landscaping,” Martinez said. “It’s very frustrating to go to the big box stores and find that the people working there don’t necessarily know about the plants they are selling. Our staff knows about the plants we sell, and they can talk about them with our customers.”
Even customers who lack a green thumb can get expert guidance in turning their yards into lush healthy gardens. Customers need only bring information about the areas where they want to plant, and the staff at Pine Lake Nursery can help them choose plants that will thrive.
“Basically, what they need to bring us is a photograph of the area with measurements or a drawing, and we can help them put something together,” Martinez said. “Seeing the area and knowing the conditions of the area are important in recommending the right plants that will do well in those conditions.”
For Martinez, personal, friendly customer service is one of the reasons that Pine Lake Nursery has built a loyal customer base, not only among homeowners, but among professional landscapers as well.
“We have a lot of dedicated customers and I’m always surprised that we have customers coming from as far away as Clearwater and St. Petersburg,” Martinez adds. “We treat every customer in a way that will keep them coming back.”
