Opening March 20, Carrollwood Players’ latest production, “Looking,” written by Canadian playwright Norm Foster, gives the audience everything needed for a perfect contemporary adult romantic comedy.
Featuring actor, Eric Misener, Kym Welch, Carl Canestrano and Krista Jerome, this foursome gives a performance that is funny thanks to comedy that is smart.
Revolving around two single women and two single men looking for relationships later in life, Foster’s script doesn’t cater just to the ladies. Both men and women will equally enjoy this show.
Divorcee Val hasn’t dated in six years, so her best friend Nina takes it upon herself to answer a dating classified ad written by Andy. They decide to go on a blind date and Nina and Andy’s friend Matt go along for moral support.
What follows is two hours of hilarious, incredibly fast-paced dialogue teaming with sexual innuendo perfectly blended with poignant, emotional and tender moments.
“Looking” is humor underscored by pain – real life.
“The couples go on a date with their friends and chaos ensues,” said director Dawn Kidle. “It is a really fun show. (As a director) I love to get my creative side up there on the stage. The first moment the characters meet at the bar is my favorite part.”
In the end, Nina, Andy, Val and Matt will discover sometimes what you think you want in that perfect relationship isn’t what you are actually looking for.
“Carrollwood Players is truly a community theater – we all come together to do some great work,” said Kidle. “It’s a really creative theater.”
“Looking” runs March 20 to April 4. Show times are 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 3 p.m. on Sunday. Tickets are $20, $17 for students, seniors and military. Call Carrollwood Players box office at (813) 265-4000 or reserve your seats online at www.carrollwoodplayers.org.
