CARROLLWOOD – The holidays are always a busy time at the Bob Sierra Family YMCA.
Because, as we know, while kids get plenty of time out of school, that doesn’t always apply to their parents. But not to worry, the YMCA has plenty of plans to keep the kids busy.
There are three Fun Day Camps offered during the holidays. They include Thanksgiving Week, from Monday, Nov. 25 through Friday, Nov. 29 except for Thanksgiving Day, when the YMCA will be closed.
During Christmas break, the YMCA will be hosting camps on Dec. 26-27. For the week of New Year’s, it will offer camps on Dec. 30, and Jan. 2-3.
Those times coincide with dates that Hillsborough County schools are closed. Events run during those dates run from 7 a.m. – 6:30 p.m. and include gymnastics, arts and crafts, swimming and skits. The swimming activities will be held in the outdoor pool, but it is heated to 82 degrees.
Registration is due no later than three days before camp and is limited to YMCA members. Kids between the ages of four and 14 are eligible. Parents are encouraged to send their kids with a swim suit, towel, sunscreen, lunch and snacks.
“It’s important for parents to keep their kids active during the holidays,” said YMCA Group Fitness Program Director Michelle Sussman. “There will be plenty to do.”
Hint to parents: the gymnastics program fills up quickly so register early.
