BRANDON — Don’t let the temperatures fool you; it is Christmas in July at The Regent, with a cool event designed to showcase both venue and vendors for people looking to book parties, weddings and other special events.
“We want to showcase our preferred vendors and our facility to the community, business people, and brides,” said Julie Juteau, director of The Regent. “This is a great place for corporate events, holiday parties, meetings, weddings, and seminars. We also offer great discounts for community events, for schools and for nonprofit organizations.”
The showcase is scheduled for July 17 from 6 to 8 p.m., with complimentary offerings from The Regent’s preferred vendors, including caterers, event design teams, photographers, deejays and hotels.
The aim is to attract patrons looking for, among other things, a year-ending holiday event.
“Everybody who is here that night, for Christmas in July, we’re going to offer a big discount,” Juteau said. “And if attendees book before Aug. 31, there’s still going to be a discount, but a lesser one.”
The Regent is at 6437 Watson Road in Riverview, south of Bloomingdale Avenue and east of Providence Road. The event space, which includes ballroom spaces on the upper level, is managed by the Brandon Community Advantage Center Board of Directors.
The space has been used for weddings; corporate and business events; showers, memorials, anniversary parties and quinceañeras; high school proms and homecomings; graduation and award ceremonies; nonprofit fund- raisers; performances; and monthly meetings.
The Regent can accommodate up to 500 people, “banquet style and with a dance floor,” Juteau said, “and up to 1,000 people theater style, for a lecture presentation.”
“We really want to showcase the facility and show everybody what we have here,” Juteau said. “The classic look of it, the wooden floors. The neutral colors that can mesh with any decoration, any palette scheme you would have with your event. Our covered terrace — everybody enjoys that —and the master staircase, which gives a grandiose look to the building.”
Open to the community, with an RSVP preferred, Christmas in July will feature food samples and complimentary beer and wine. The building is owned by Hillsborough Community College, which uses it as a satellite Brandon campus, offering HCC classes, dual-enrollment classes and programs through the Institute for Corporate and Continuing Education (ICCE). HCC at The Regent has four classrooms and two computer labs on the lower level, as well as a 3,000 square—foot multipurpose room, which can be booked as well for special events. Community groups — including couts, homeowners associations, nonprofit organizations, schools and support groups — have used the lower level, which has been built to serve also as a storm shelter.
