BRANDON — Hillsborough County announced the completion of a project that should help ease traffic flow on two notoriously congested roadways.
The South Gornto Lake Road Expansion had its official grand opening Tuesday. Though a planned ribbon cutting ceremony was canceled due to inclement weather, county officials praised the project, which was completed two weeks early and $85,000 under budget.
“This project has been a priority of mine and is a response to meeting the growing needs of our community,” said County Commissioner Al Higginbotham. “We’ve moved forward with a project that commuters, shoppers and businesses have all been eagerly awaiting.
“We want to promote a better quality of life for people to live, work and play here.”
The half-mile extension serves as a new north-south corridor between busy State Road 60 and Causeway Boulevard in Brandon. The corridor includes four 11-foot-wide vehicle travel lanes, two 4-foot-wide bicycle lanes, and a 5-foot-wide sidewalk along both sides.
