Brandon motorcyclist dies in Gibsonton crash
A Brandon man died in a motorcycle crash Tuesday evening when he tried to drive around a tractor-trailer exiting Interstate 75 in Gibsonton. Thomas Konier, 24, was heading east at a high rate of speed on a Honda motorcycle on Gibsonton Drive near I-75 about 7:18 p.m., according to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office. A tractor-trailer pulling a tanker driven by Clarence Williams, of Ruskin, was turning left onto Gibsonton Drive as it exited I-75 North, the sheriff’s office said. Konier, of 113 Lentz Road, tried to drive around the tanker to the right but did not brake and struck the tank on its left rear, the sheriff’s office said.Konier died at the scene.
