Brandon church offers free online parenting class
BRANDON - Fusion Student Ministries of First United Methodist Church of Brandon is equipping parents to communicate their faith to their children by offering a free, monthly online parenting class. Busy parents and grandparents of teenagers may not always be able to attend face-to-face parenting classes to find answers to perplexing questions about the new personalities and behaviors their children exhibit during adolescence. Topics covered are “How to Leave a Legacy That Matters,” “Reacting versus Responding,” “Staying Calm When Your Teenager Is Not,” “Rebel and Repeat” and “The Power of a Symbol.” The church’s youth minister, Ricc Conner, will send a weekly email to parents of students in Fusion Student Ministries and to subscribing church members. The emails contain links to videos about each month’s topic.“The goal is to have this be a continuous class that never ends,” said Conner. “Currently we have eight months’ worth of material.” The prerecorded video messages are prepared by staff of ParentMinistry.net, self-described as “people who, first and foremost, are passionately in love with Jesus” and who have “varied backgrounds, life experiences and denominational connections.” The Apostles’ Creed is their statement of faith. “Parents are always welcome to email me (student minister) any questions they might have,” said Conner.
