BRANDON — It’s never too early to get into the giving spirit of the holidays.
On Sept. 28, the GFWC Brandon Junior Woman’s Club will host its seventh annual Santa’s Crop for the Kids crafting event at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 2913 John Moore Road, Brandon.
Proceeds from the event will help organize the club’s Children’s Holiday Party later this year.
“With this one, we’re really focused on raising money for the Children’s Holiday Party,” said Becky Goble, event chairwoman.
Goble said the club partners with about 15 elementary schools in the greater Brandon area to bring Christmas cheer to needy kids.
“We work with the guidance counselors at the schools, and they give us about two or three kids from each school that we can help out,” she said. “If they have an older sibling, we support them too.”
Goble estimates 50 to 60 participants — ranging from experienced scrapbookers to first-timers — at this month’s event, which will take place between 8:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m.
In addition to cropping and crafting, the event will feature raffles, a silent auction and a variety of vendors demonstrating their wares.
Everyone who attends Santa’s Crop for the Kids is also encouraged to bring school supplies in exchange for a raffle ticket.
“The school supplies will also be given out during the holiday party,” Goble said. “Every child also gets clothing, shoes, and about three or four toys each.” The club’s holiday party community partners include Macy’s and Payless ShoeSource.
Registration for the event is $40 and includes breakfast and lunch snack, a goodie bag and more.
