Brandon chamber gala recognizes stand-out small businesses


Five area businesses considered stand-outs in their categories, were named Small Business of the Year by the Greater Brandon Chamber of Commerce during its gala at the Sheraton Tampa East on Thursday.

The Brandon chamber’s tradition of the Small Business of the Year awards includes honoring business owners and their entrepreneurial spirit, which enriches the local economy.

The awards are judged by Service Core of Retired Executives (SCORE) Chapter 213. Judging is based on community service, strength, growth and the challenges a business has overcome.

Here are the 2013 winners:

♦ 16 or more employees: Sencommunications, Inc. Other finalists were Delaney Creek Lodge and Livingstone Academy.

♦ 6-15 Employees: Brandon Open MRI. Other finalists were Bivins & Hemenway, P.A. and Crosstown Store-N-More Self Storage LLC.

♦ 1-5 Employees: You Say When Yogurt Shoppe. Other finalists were Minuteman Press and Lambert Law Offices.

♦ Minority & Women Owned: Carr Pediatric Dentistry, P.A. Other finalists were Law Office of Ingrid M. Hooglander and Julie’s Walk-In Closet.

♦ Home-based Business: TakeOut Butler, LLC. Other finalists were ION Apparel & Advertising Specialties and Traventours Events and Excursions Inc.
