Boy recovering after being dragged by vehicle
TAMPA - A 14-month-old boy is recovering at a local hospital after being struck and dragged by a vehicle on Friday, the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office said. Jaike Young was taken to St. Joseph’s Hospital with non life-threatening injuries, the sheriff’s office said. He was playing outside a home at 4421 Cobia Drive in Tampa with six or seven children at around 6:30 p.m. when a vehicle stopped in front of the home to drop someone off, the sheriff’s office said. Family members were supervising the children while they played, the sheriff’s office said. As the vehicle was stopped in front of the home, someone threw a rock towards the vehicle, and Young went to retrieve the rock, the sheriff’s office said.The driver of the vehicle didn’t see Young, and the driver took the foot off the brake, the sheriff’s office said. The vehicle moved forward 8 to 10 feet and dragged Young underneath, the sheriff’s office said. The driver then stopped the vehicle. The driver will not be cited, the sheriff’s office said.
