Tampa Bay Rays

Thomas Bassinger’s takeaways from Saturday’s Rays-Orioles game

Interesting decision by the Rays to start RH reliever Ryne Stanek on Saturday. The Orioles' Nos. 1 through 5 hitters were righties, and Stanek came in allowing a 1.228 OPS against righties and a .592 OPS against lefties. It ended up working.

How about SS Daniel Robertson? The team leader in on-base percentage, he went 3-for-4, including a double and a run scored. He flashed some glove, too, making a diving stop on a ground ball in the third inning and cleanly fielding a short hop in the seventh.

Too many baserunning blunders. The Orioles tagged out Wilson Ramos when he stepped off the base after a double, then later doubled him up at first after a line-drive out to right. Carlos Gomez missed a stop sign at third. Tampa Bay isn't built to outslug teams. It can't afford such mistakes.
