Ryan Callahan out indefinitely with upper-body injury

Lightning wing Ryan Callahan is out indefinitely with an upper-body injury suffered Tuesday against the Maple Leafs, the but injury isn't believed to be season-ending, general manager Steve Yzerman said Wednesday.

With nine games left in the regular season, Tampa Bay isn't sure when to expect Callahan to be back in the lineup.

"We expect him back, just can't give you a time frame yet," Yzerman said.

Callahan suffered what appeared to be a right arm/shoulder injury in the first period of the 4-3 win over Toronto. He left the game and didn't return.

Coach Jon Cooper said it was "encouraging" that Callahan felt better Wednesday when he reported to the team facility in Brandon. He won't be on the two-game road trip that begins Thursday at the Islanders.

Yzerman indicated there might be a callup from AHL Syracuse this weekend. Tampa Bay has used three of the four allotted post-trade-deadline recalls (Anthony Cirelli, Adam Erne and Louis Domingue).

Potential options are wing Mathieu Joseph, who leads the Crunch with 46 points; Mitchell Stephens; Alex Volkov; Michael Bournival, and Matt Peca. Carter Verhaeghe has also been impressive.
