In normal circumstances, the Hillsborough and Pasco county school districts would have formal 2017-18 budgets in place by now.
Hurricane Irma canceled those plans. Each School Board had to postpone its final public hearing and budget adoption while grappling with the storm's after effects.
As Pasco superintendent Kurt Browning suggested, it would not be appropriate to conduct such critical public business while the public's attention is so diverted.
The Hillsborough School Board's Sept. 12 meeting is now set for Sept. 19. It will begin at 3 p.m., in the School Board Auditorium, 901 E. Kennedy Blvd., with the budget public hearing to start at 5:01 p.m. In addition, the board's workshop on HB 7069 scheduled planned for today has been canceled. A new date hasn't been set.
The Pasco School Board's Sept. 12 meeting is now scheduled for Sept. 19, as well. It will begin at 6 p.m. in the board meeting room, 7227 Land O' Lakes Boulevard, Land O' Lakes. The board has not announced whether it will conduct a planned workshop on legislative issues and a Ridgewood High School transformation proposal before the meeting.
