The Riverside Arts Market, in the historic district of Jacksonville’s Riverside/Avondale neighborhood, is ‘the’ place locals go on Saturdays from March to December.
My family and I are no different – it's one of our favorite weekend outings around town.
Here’s a look at some of the things you and your family can experience at the weekly market:
Rain or shine - Located underneath the Fuller Warren Bridge, which takes drivers across the St. Johns River on I-95, the market is completely covered and offers a great breeze from the river. No need for an umbrella if it starts to rain, just keep shopping.
Good eats – One of our favorite things to do at the market is to have a picnic along the St. Johns River. The food vendors rotate weekly and we love exploring the new places, deciding what to eat each week. From pizza to barbecue to Caribbean food – we never leave hungry. And no trip is complete without a stop at the bread vendor for some cinnamon rolls to-go, perfect for the next day’s breakfast.
Live music – From musicians on the main stage along the riverfront to the saxphone player mingling among the shoppers, the Riverside Arts Market features numerous musical acts from different genres each week. The entertainment lineup is posted throughout the market. Grab a snack and soak up the view along with great music. Plenty of seats are available.
Shop ‘til you drop – Each week photographers, woodworkers, painters and even clothing designers gather at the market with their latest goods. If you’re looking for handmade soap, locally grown vegetables or even homemade dog treats, the arts market is the perfect place to pick up some souvenirs for yourself.
Insider Tip: When you’re done shopping, be sure to visit the Cummer Museum of Art & Gardens located next door to the Riverside Arts Market. On select Saturdays of the month, the Cummer offers free admission, so be sure to check their online calendar.
