Leave it to the always-retro Stray Cats. When they announced a reunion show today for spring in Las Vegas, it wasn't for an '80s festival, it was for a rockabilly fest.
Slim Jim Phantom, Brian Setzer and Lee Rocker will get their pompadours back in form for an April 21 show at the Orleans Hotel in Las Vegas, the band announced today. The Stray Cats will headline the Viva Las Vegas Rockabilly Weekend, which includes performances by Jerry Lee Lewis and Duane Eddy as well as pin-up contests, burlesque shows and "jiving" lessons. (I don't want to know.)
The band behind the hits Stray Cat Strut, Rock This Town and Sexy + 17 formed way back in the late '70s at the height of the '50s revival moment (Happy Days, anyone?) But they've largely been on recess the last decade while band members pursued solo projects. (Setzer's traditional Christmas swing tour just wrapped up.) It's been 10 years since the last Cats show.
Will this be the kickoff show to a larger reunion tour? That idea's got cat class and it's got cat style.
