A case of maliciously spread tacks on a pedestrian bridge and damaged bicycles tires has drawn the attention of the Tampa Police Department.
Authorities began to receive calls about 11:25 a.m. Sunday concerning tacks left on the Courtney Campbell Causeway Pedestrian walkway.
At least five bicyclists reported having thumb tacks and carpet tacks gouge their wheels, causing more than $600 in damage, according to the Tampa Police Department.
Members of the Hillsborough County Parks, Recreation and Conservation Department and those from the Florida Department of Transportation helped clear the trail.
Officers also used a parks and recreation utility vehicle with a magnetic roller attached to the back to clear any remaining tacks.
Those entering and exiting the trail were warned of the tacks, police said.
The incident remains under investigation.
