Oz,’ Lucy’ part of Ruth Eckerd Hall’s Broadway season
CLEARWATER - A trip down the yellow brick road, a tribute to the queen of TV comedy, a concert by the star of NBC’s “Smash” and an acclaimed group of a cappella singers are all part of Ruth Eckerd Hall’s 30th anniversary Broadway season, announced today. “We will continue to offer the best performances at the very best prices,” Zev Buffman, president and CEO of Ruth Eckerd, said in a statement. The 2013-14 season, either at the arts hall or at the Capitol Theatre (currently undergoing renovations), boasts two Florida premieres:
“The Wizard of Oz,” April 15-19, 2014, Ruth Eckerd Hall. Reconceived for the stage by iconic producer Andrew Lloyd Webber, this show has the beloved characters and songs from the Oscar-winning movie plus the added bonus of new songs by Webber and Tim Price.
“I Love Lucy Live on Stage,” May 16-June 8, 2014, Capitol Theatre. The audience will witness the filming of two classic “I Love Lucy” episodes at the Desilu Playhouse in this tribute to the flame-haired comedienne. Can you say Vitavegamin?
The season also includes:
Megan Hilty in Concert, April 26, 2014, Capitol Theatre. The woman who plays Ivy Lynn on NBC’s “Smash” performs songs from her latest album “It Happens All The Time.”
Straight No Chaser, Nov. 23, Ruth Eckerd Hall. Ten voices come together to make extraordinary music when the male a capella group leaves kitsch behind and hits the stage.
“Mamma Mia,” Nov. 1-2, Ruth Eckerd Hall. Try and stop yourself from singing along to the ABBA hits when this tale of love and friendship returns.
“Elf The Musical,” Nov. 12-13, Ruth Eckerd Hall. Buddy the elf, who learns he’s really a human and goes on a search for his father, will kick-start the holiday season.
“The Addams Family,” Jan. 11, Ruth Eckerd Hall. The family is still kooky, spooky and all-together ooky in this Broadway musical based on the popular TV show.
“Rain – A Tribute to the Beatles,” Jan. 13, Ruth Eckerd Hall. You may think you’re at the famed “Ed Sullivan Show” when these tribute artists transport you back to the ’60s. All you need is love.
“Rock of Ages,” Jan. 17, Ruth Eckerd Hall. Another flashback, this time featuring ’80 clothes, hair and the tunes of Journey, Styx, Night Ranger, Poison and more.
“Million Dollar Quartet,” April 10-12, Ruth Eckerd Hall. This Tony Award-winning show is inspired by the true story of a famed recording session with Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis and Carl Perkins.
Tickets for a patron’s choice, five-show Broadway Series Package, costing $295, go on sale at noon Monday at the Ruth Eckerd Hall ticket office at 1111 McMullen-Booth Road, Clearwater, or by calling (727) 791-7400.
