Security guards inside a south St. Petersburg market fatally shot a man who was waving a gun around during an apparent argument early Tuesday, police said.
He was identified as 23-year-old Jhai-quel Rai-Tez Black, whose last known address was 4925 37th St. N., St. Petersburg, police said.
Black and another man entered the Obama Express Food Market, at 1400 18th Ave. S, about 3:30 a.m. and were apparently arguing, police detectives said. During the dispute, Black produced a handgun and began waving it around, police said.
Torrence Benjamin, 26, and Gregory Jarmon, 36, who are employees of the security company South Florida Impact Investigators, had been patrolling the exterior of the store and came inside, police said. They confronted Black and fired their weapons, police said. Black died at the scene.
Store surveillance video of the incident was being reviewed by detectives, police said.
No charges were anticipated at this time, police said.
