Senate passes bill on commercial parasailing

The Florida Senate on Thursday unanimously passed a bill to regulate the state’s commercial parasailing industry, plagued in recent years by horrific accidents and injuries.

The measure (SB 320) requires operators of the thrill rides to carry at least $1 million in liability insurance and to shut down when the weather gets dangerous, among other things.

Last year, two teenaged tourists were dragged against buildings and power lines when their tow line snapped during an approaching storm near Panama City.

A House companion (HB 347) is now in the Regulatory Affairs committee.
