Scooter driver killed in Dunedin crash with SUV

A driver of a scooter was killed after being hit by an SUV Sunday morning in Dunedin.
At 10:38 a.m. a 1996 Jeep Cherokee, driven by Rashied Jones, 39, of Clearwater, was headed east in the center lane of State Road 580, also known as Main Street, nearing Belcher Road.
A 2010 Honda scooter, driven by Gordon Haboush, 57, of Dunedin, was traveling north on Belcher Road.
Haboush drove between stopped vehicles as he approached the intersection, according to the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office. The scooter traveled between the stopped cars, the curb and a right turn only lane, pulling into the path of the Jeep Cherokee.
The scooter was struck by the Jeep and Haboush became trapped underneath the Jeep.
Haboush, who was not wearing a helmet, died at the scene. Jones was not injured.
Eastbound Main Street was closed for about 4 hours as deputies investigated the wreck.
