Police: 'Homemade crude device' cause of Tampa bar explosion

An explosion that rocked a Tampa bar Wednesday night was caused by a "homemade crude device" and was not a random act of violence, police said. The device damaged most of the windows, interior walls and doors, and exterior doors when it was set off around 10:30 p.m. at the Radio Bar and Grill, 2806 W. Busch Blvd. One employee and one patron were inside at the time of the explosion, police said. The patron, who was in the restroom, was hospitalized with chest pains and released, police said.
Police received a call saying someone had "set off a bomb in the bar," police said. The bar was evacuated while investigators conducted a safety sweep, police said. The police department's Explosive and Ordinance Team and the Fire Marshal's Office continue to investigate.
