BRANDON - Five years ago, two people started Moreno Bakery at 906 W. Robertson St. Now, with 29 employees, expanding services and an ever-growing clientele, Josť and Susan Moreno are moving their shop to a larger storefront a block from their existing location.
The bakery is moving to 737 W. Brandon Blvd. sometime near the end of July.
Currently the bakery offers breads, cookies, pastries, pies and celebratory cakes as well as Cuban sandwiches.
"The new space will allow us to add more cases of baked goods and expand our food selection," said Susan Moreno. "We will have a kitchen and want to add soups, salads and other types of sandwiches."
The larger store will provide room to add seats and tables for dining and space for creating more custom and wedding cakes.
"I think our concept of having everything under one roof is special in this day," she said. "We aren't trying to do just bread or just cupcakes. We have something for everyone in the family to find and enjoy."
The Morenos appreciate the community's response to their creative efforts; they've been voted Brandon's best bakery in 2010, 2011 and 2012.
"It's wonderful to hear people tell us how happy they are that we opened in Brandon and that we can never leave it," said Susan Moreno. "Or when we meet someone and they hear our last name and ask if we know the bakery people. When we say, 'We are the bakery people,' they say something like, 'Oh my gosh, I love that place!' It's always a great energy boost."
Moreno Bakery hours will continue to be 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday and 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday. Phone will remain (813) 689-0320; fax will stay the same at (813) 689-0374. Visit www.morenobakery.com or their Facebook page.
