Woman critically hurt in Courtney Campbell hit-and-run crash
A Tampa woman is hospitalized in critical condition after a hit-and-run crash early this morning that closed westbound lanes on the Courtney Campbell Causeway for several hours. Tampa police say Chantelle Barbose, 41, was driving a 2001 Honda Civic westbound when she crashed into the barrier wall around 4:38 a.m. west of Rocky Point. The driver's side door was pinned against the barrier and the car appeared to have caught on fire, according to witness reports. When Barbose climbed out of the driver's door window and over the median into the eastbound lanes, police say a driver in a black SUV ran over her leg.The Florida Highway Patrol closed westbound lanes at 4:49 a.m., but police directed westbound motorists along the service road on the north side of the causeway. Eastbound traffic also was down to one lane, according to the FHP. Stay with TBO.com for updates.
