Flood watch in effect till Thursday in coastal counties
It's going to get wet. The National Weather Service in Ruskin issued a flood watch Tuesday night from Pasco County to Lee County. The flood watch is in effect until 8 p.m. Thursday. Rainfall totals could be more than five inches in the Tampa area, with the majority coming on Wednesday and Thursday. The cause is a low pressure system near the Yucatan Peninsula that will move through the Gulf of Mexico, the National Weather Service said. The system could strengthen further, the National Weather Service warns. On Thursday, there is a threat of waterspouts or tornadoes. As the system nears the coastline on Thursday, the surge could push water levels to two feet above the normal high tide, which could cause minor coastal flooding, the National Weather Service said.
