Plant City woman charged with animal cruelty after horse euthanized
A Plant City woman has been charged with a felony count of animal cruelty after Hillsborough County deputies said she neglected her 25-year-old gelding, which had to be euthanized. In April, deputies were notified of an abused horse named Rusty, previously acquired from Lynda Jo Vilches. Detectives said Vilches caused the horse to be severely malnourished, causing unnecessary pain and suffering. In addition, detectives said Rusty’s left front foot joint was injured and left untreated, and he had severely overgrown hoofs that cause extreme pain. The horse had to be euthanized, deputies said. Vilches turned herself in to Hillsborough County Jail on May 18.
