LL Cool J, Ice Cube to highlight hip-hop tour in St. Pete
LL Cool J and Ice Cube are coming to St. Petersburg in June as part of a nationwide tour of some of hip-hop’s top names. The pair will be joined by Public Enemy and De La Soul at the Mahaffey Theater on June 6 for the Kings Of The Mic Tour. The 26-city tour coincides with the April 30 release of LL Cool J’s 14th new studio album, “Authentic.” LL Cool J, star of the CBS drama “NCIS: Los Angeles,” is the first rap artist to have 10 consecutive platinum albums, and is tied for third most “Billboard” chart debuts by a rapper.In addition to his music career, Ice Cube has earned fame in the film industry as a writer, director, actor and producer. Notable roles include “Boyz In The Good,” “The Friday,” and most recently, “21 Jump Street.” Public Enemy, which debuted in 1987, was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame this year. De La Soul blends hip-hop with jazz rap, and in 2006 won a Grammy Award for its collaboration with Gorillaz on the single “Feel Good Inc.” Tickets go on sale Friday and are available at themahaffey.com or by phone at (727) 893-7832 through Sunday.
