Firestone Grand Prix of St. Petersburg: Downtown will literally be buzzing Friday-Sunday, when the annual opening race for the Verizon IndyCar series hits the streets along the waterfront. $20-$100 single day. Friday night, Ferg’s Sports Bar and Grill throws a Grand Prix Jam with headliners Lit and Puddle of Mudd. The first 500 Grand Prix ticket holders get in free, or admission is $6-$38.50.

Valspar Championship: Tiger Woods, top, and Jordan Spieth, bottom, are adding star power to this year’s PGA tournament held on the Copperhead Course at Innisbrook in Palm Harbor. It runs Tuesday-Sunday, featuring a food truck rally, tiny home show and a concert with Jake Owen and Dustin Lynch on Saturday. Free admission Tuesday; $39 and up; 15 and younger free.

Chasco Fiesta: New Port Richey’s nine-day festival kicks off Friday in Sims Park featuring a carnival with a midway and a street parade Saturday. Free to attend; wristband for carnival rides additional.

Gasparilla Music Festival: The event returns to Curtis Hixon Park Saturday-Sunday, bringing some 30 acts including the Roots, Father John Misty and Spoon. Food from local restaurants, caterers and vendors keep your belly full. $30-$60; VIP $100-$200. gasparillamusic

Florida Strawberry Festival and Concerts: Plant City’s festival continues with an impressive lineup of acts all week including Trace Adkins, Vanilla Ice and Salt-N-Pepa and Brad Paisley. $10, $5 ages 6 to 12, 5 and younger free. Concert tickets are extra.

‘The Color Purple’: The Tony Award-winning musical based on Alice Walker’s epic tale runs Tuesday-Sunday at Tampa’s Straz Center ($26 and up).
