Southbound lanes on Interstate 75 were closed in Brandon early Tuesday morning after a semi-trailer carrying frozen chickens caught fire.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, 52-year-old Brian Keith Jester, of Venice, was driving southbound near State Road 60 around 4:30 a.m. when his rear brakes suffered a mechanical failure and caught fire.

Jester pulled off onto the shoulder and exited safely as the truck burked, troopers said.

The fire closed southbound lanes for about 45 minutes, troopers said.
