ICE CLOSES I-10, SNOW ARRIVES IN TALLAHASSEE AS ‘WINTER HURRICANE’ THREATENS NORTHEAST

Brutal winter weather that’s brought subzero temperatures to parts of the U.S. is threatening to dump snow and ice across areas of the South that rarely see flurries, much less accumulation. The National Weather Service said a wintry mix of snow and freezing rain — termed by some as resembling a "winter hurricane" — was expected today mainly along the Atlantic seaboard from Florida to North Carolina. It warned that icy roads and low visibility could make driving treacherous across the region.

GRUDEN: ‘A GOOD CHANCE’ HE WILL COACH THE RAIDERS

Jon Gruden finally admitted what everyone has believed is true: he has interviewed for the Oakland Raiders’ head coaching job and says "there’s a good chance" he will take it. Appearing on ESPN’s Golic and Wingo show, Gruden said he had interviewed with Raiders principal owner and managing general partner Mark Davis. It’s been reported that Gruden will earn $10-million per season. The only hangup appears to be the Raiders have to fulfill the requirements of the Rooney Rule by interviewing a minority head coaching candidate.

ANDREW LLOYD WEBBER LETS HIS FREAK FLAG FLY

From Andrew Lloyd Webber’s most recent musical, we may conclude several things. School of Rock was a pretty good movie. The It came with an exuberant plot, a solid chassis around which to redesign a car. The touring show, which has come to the David A. Straz Jr. Center for the Performing Arts, also completes an across-the-pond marriage between an American film and a British musical, which might contain clues. But maybe the most compelling conclusion is just that kids sure are cute. These young performers are no exception, but it’s their talent that anchors the show.
