TAMPA — A South Tampa restaurant is expected to reopen on Friday after a kitchen fire caused about $200,000 in damage.

According to Tampa Fire Rescue, firefighters were called to 4 Rivers Smokehouse, 623 S MacDill Ave., Wednesday night around 11:05 after a fire alarm went off inside the building.

Once there, firefighters found heavy smoke coming from the building but no active fire, even though the automatic sprinkler system had activated in the kitchen area, officials said.

Firefighters determined the fire was caused by a freezer unit near the fryer area, officials said. The freezer was moved to the back of the building, and the sprinklers kept the fire contained to that area.

Investigators estimate the building sustained about $200,000 in smoke, fire and water damage.

No injuries were reported, officials said.

The restaurant is expected to reopen Friday by dinner-time, according to a post on the restaurant’s Facebook page.
