A Ruskin woman faces an aggravated animal cruelty charge after deputies say they found a malnourished pit bull chained to a tree.

Deputies responding Thursday to the home of Maria Del Rodriguez Alvarado, 329 1st St. NW, found the severely thin dog with bones visibly showing.

Deputies say Maria Del Rodriguez Alvarado, 329 1st St. NW, told investigators she had gone up to a week without providing the dog with food, water or shelter.

Rodriguez Alvarado was arrested Thursday and transported to the Orient Road Jail.
